Training Programme
Wing Chun Kuen has three hand forms, wooden dummy, butterfly knife and the long pole.
The first form called Siu Nim Tau (translated in English as Little Idea) and it is the foundation for a beginner to start with. It trains students to practise with correct posture with the horse stance "Yee Gee Kim Yeung Ma" and perform the hand moves in the most relaxed way. Here I am not going into details about this form as my Sifu Grand Master Chu Shong Tin has written articles about the three hand forms. He shares his over fifty years of in-depth experience and knowledge in the system of Wing Chun that no one can write articles with the same quality as my Sifu. If interested, please go to the RESOURCE TAB where you will find my Sifu's articles in both Chinese and English.
Anyone trains with me will need a lot of patience, determination and perseverance because he/she will be practising Siu Nim Tau for around five to six months before I train student with Dan Chi Sau (translated in English as single sticking hand). Remember there are no fancy drills and movements other than the form during the initial period. There were a number of students dropped out from my class within one to two months because they could not cope with my requirement.
For a student to start training Dan Chi Sau, he/she should be able to spring his/her hand forward in relaxed way when obstruction disappears. This conforms to the third golden rule "Lut Sau Jit Chun". It will take another six months before practising Sheung Chi Sau (translated in English as double sticking hands). Around 18 months a diligent student will start practising the first part of the second form Chum Kiu, then finishes the whole of Chum Kiu at end of the third year.
Students will continue practising sticking hands and all the forms they have learnt and in the fourth year they will learn the third form "Biu Gee" (translated in English as thrusting fingers). A diligent student will complete the whole three forms at the end of the fourth year.
Upon completion of all the hand forms, students will learn the Wooden Dummy in the fifth year.
Warning: In order to complete the training programme students are assumed to practise daily at least an hour if not more.
